Who we are

Information we use

Alpha list and enquiries. When you join the alpha list, we collect your email address, your consent and the time you signed up. We use them to send the updates you request. If you contact us, we use your email address and message to respond.

Game profile and progress. Be a Hero uses a game profile, including a unique hero name, customisation choices, skill levels, XP, rewards, achievements and game settings, to run the game, save progress and provide leaderboards. Heroes are currently anonymous and linked to the device; changing devices can result in lost progress.

Activity information. With your permission, the app reads your step count from Apple Health or Health Connect to calculate Endurance XP. Health and step readings stay on your device and are not sent off it. The resulting game progress, including XP and levels, may be saved to your game profile. Workout answers, logged reps, reading and cooking progress, and park-visit rewards are used to provide the relevant activities and progress.

Location and camera. With permission, location is used while the app is open to show nearby parks and check that you are inside a park when starting a visit. Be a Hero does not track your location in the background. Recipe photos are checked on your phone and remain on your device. Leaderboards do not display the names of places you visit.

Feedback and technical information. If you send feedback in the app, your ratings and written responses are saved on our server so we can improve Be a Hero. Our website hosting and security providers may receive technical information, such as IP addresses and browser request details, to deliver and protect the site. This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser requests those resources from Google.

How we use and share information

We use information to operate the game and website, save progress, provide leaderboards, respond to requests, protect the service, improve the experience, and send updates where you have consented. We do not sell personal information. Be a Hero has no adverts or advertising tracking SDKs, and health and step information is not used for advertising.

Supabase provides the game backend and leaderboards. Our website hosting and security providers process information needed to run the site. Apple and Google process store purchases and subscriptions under their own policies; they provide the information needed to manage access to membership. We require service providers acting for us to protect personal information and use it only for the services they provide.

Membership and payments

Be a Hero offers free play and monthly or annual membership. Membership purchases will be available when enabled in the app. The relevant app store handles payment; Tinkr Studio does not receive your full payment card details. The store and any subscription service used to provide membership process purchase and subscription information to manage your entitlement.

Our legal bases

Where UK or European data protection law applies, we use information as needed to provide the service you request, for our legitimate interests in security, support and improving the service, or to meet legal obligations. We rely on consent for alpha-list marketing and for access to device permissions where required. You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect processing already carried out.

How long we keep information

We keep alpha-list details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them. We keep game profile and progress information while the profile is active or until deletion is requested. We retain feedback and technical records only for as long as needed for support, security and improving the service. We may retain limited information for longer where necessary to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent abuse; it is then deleted or anonymised.

Deleting your account and your choices

To request deletion, visit Delete your account or email admin@tinkr.studio. We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days. Deletion removes the game profile and associated server data, subject to the limited retention described above. You can withdraw from the alpha list by emailing us, and you can change health, location and camera permissions in your device settings. Deleting your profile or uninstalling the app does not cancel a store subscription.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to or restrict processing, or receive a portable copy. Contact us to exercise your rights. UK residents can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

International transfers and security

Our service providers may process information outside the UK or your country. Where data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we use an appropriate legal mechanism. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

Children

Be a Hero is intended for people aged 13 and older. Where local law requires a parent or guardian’s permission, that permission is required before use. If you believe a child has provided personal information contrary to this policy, contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. The current version will be available on this page.
